Sport and social life! Casino has a $12 million addition that replaces its former Center Stage performance area in the middle of its casino floor.
The nearly 14,000-square-foot, 212-seat venue features a state-of-the-art audio/visual system with more than 100 linear feet of LED screens, including a 47-foot-wide main screen. The casino says that guests can watch at least 10 games at a time.
It also has two main bars, VIP lounge, tiered sport viewing lounge seats, casino games that include blackjack and roulette, and interactive social games, including mini-bowling and giant football.

Life! The casino already has a partnership with FanDuel and, pending final approval, the new location will have multiple options to place bets, including self-service kiosks and retail windows.
Maryland voters approved a ballot initiative to legalize sports betting in 2020. A bill to do so has passed both the Maryland House and Senate and is awaiting Gov. Larry Hagan’s signature. Legal betting in Maryland could begin as soon as this fall.

The national sports & social brand, owned by Maryland Live! The owner of The Cordish Cos., has entered into a partnership with the sports platform FanDuel Group that will allow people to place bets either on the premises at Arundel Mills Casino or from a mobile device.
“We’ll be ready to do sports betting at Sports & Community as soon as the state allows it,” which could be late summer or early fall, said Reed Cordish, director of Baltimore development. “Managers who come to Sports and Social will have the ability to go to a cashier or a kiosk and bet on the game they are watching.”

Lawmakers agreed on a plan to provide licenses for 100 in-person and online venues, including casinos, Laurel Park and Pimlico Race Course tracks, and stadiums for the Baltimore Orioles, Baltimore Ravens and team Washington football.

Additional building permits will be available for outside betting facilities, the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium and large bingo halls. Additional licenses will go to mobile and online sports betting, which is the main form of sports betting in other states.
Legislators hope to begin sports betting in late summer or early fall, in time for the NFL season.
Maryland Live! Cordish will be an applicant with FanDuel for casino licenses. The mobile license is a key part of the partners’ plan to enter the state’s sports betting industry.
“A significant portion of sports betting takes place on mobile,” Cordish said. “We think there is a real opportunity with sports to lead the audience in life! through special events and promotions.”

Cordish Cos. has been developing Sports & Community programs at sports-oriented properties around the United States, such as The Battery near Truist Park in Atlanta, Ballpark Village near Busch Stadium in St. Louis, and Texas Live! at the Arlington Entertainment District in Texas.
Hanover Sports & Community will be the third of the brand’s venues to offer entertainment, joining locations that opened last year and this year in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.
A second Maryland location will open in North Bethesda’s Pike & Rose mixed-use project this fall, and others are planned for Chicago, Miami and Nashville, Tennessee.

Hanover Casino is not the only place in the state preparing for sports betting. As the Maryland Jockey Club renovated Laurel Park in recent years, it added space for a potential future sportsbook. MGM National Harbor has applied for permits to build a “Sportsbook Improvement Project.”
Life! The casino’s sports bar, a $15 million project that seats more than 200 people, is focused on more than 100 PCM feet of LED screens, with a nearly 50-foot-wide main screen. The venue has two main bars, including one with electronic table games, tiered sports viewing tables and lounge chairs, VIP lounge area, casino games and the Duckpin bowling lane.
“We have 15 screens working now… and we have TVs almost everywhere,” said Rob Norton, CEO of Cordish Gaming and Live! The casino. “We have the ability to show all the different sports that are playing at the same time. So everything that is there on the broadcast we will have up and running.

The casino is awaiting new state regulations to determine some details about how sports betting will work, Norton said.
For example, it is possible that in-game betting will be allowed, but this will depend on the final rules, he said.
“I am hopeful that we will see new customers come to the company for the opportunity to bet on sports,” said Norton. “We’ve built what I think is the best sports viewing area anywhere in the region.”
